WE SPECIALISE IN BOW HUNTING
On the western part of the Limpopo near Thabazimbi is where you will find Rooibosbult Safaris – family owned property. Located right in the Bushveld, you will be surrounded by indigenous Marula, Knob Thorn and Leadwood trees, the open “veld”, and the sound of nature calling you to one of Africa’s greatest hunting areas. Bordering the Matlabas nature Reserve makes this a unique piece of heaven.
AREA INFORMATION
The area is 3500ft above sea level with climate conditions that are mostly dry and temperate with mild winters and dry hot summers. In the cold months, temperatures can go as low as 32degrees Fahrenheit and rise as high as 100degrees at the height of our summer. Our rainfall is concentrated to our warmer seasons with an average of 18 inches per annum.
Our hunting season is from March to November.
March – May: This is autumn season where temperatures are starting to drop, humidity is low, morning and evening are cool. Midday temperatures do not exceed the 90degress F mark.
June – August: The thick of our winter season with cold morning and evenings and a bit of sunshine to thaw the frost from the dry grass. The days are shorts and the nights are long, an ideal time for a night hunt if you are up to it.
September – November: Spring-time with light flutters of spring rains and a lovely time of year both day and night. Temperatures range from 65degress F and 90degress F.

HEALTH AND MEDICAL
No special inoculations are required for South Africa. The hunting area is in a Malaria-free zone. Should your overall trip include a trip to the Kruger National Park, then you will be in Malaria-zone. Do consult with your physician on getting anti-malaria tablets as a precautionary measure.
On the first few nights after your arrival, we would recommend sleeping pills to allow your body to adapt to time zone changes and jet lag. Anti-diarrhoea is always handy to pack, just in case.
Please let the office know in advance if there is any special medical needs or food allergies that we need to be aware of. In South Africa we are still fighting the spread of COVID-19 so you will need to wear your mask, sanitize regularly, and maintain social distancing.
HUNTING EQUIPMENT
You are required to bring your own hunting equipment for the safari. No paperwork or import permits are required for bringing your bow hunting equipment into South Africa. However, there are some procedures to follow when collecting your bow at OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) which we will discuss with you prior to your safari.
We do hire out equipment, such as crossbows, at a daily rate in cases where you come up short. Also feel free to bring a spare bow, extra strings, and other essentials you might need. From our experience, two dozen broadheads should be enough. Worst case scenario, we do have a local archery shop in the closest town, if we should need anything urgently. We have set up a practice range in camp for those who want to test their tools before heading for the hunt.
Other equipment:
- Day Bay: to carry personal items like lip balm, insect repellent, sunscreen, and tobacco.
- Light weight binoculars
- Camera (extra batteries/memory)
- Rugged pair of sunglasses
- Flashlight (extra batteries)
- Type M plug
- Miscellaneous: personal medication, sunscreen (SPF 30+), tobacco products, reading material, personal toiletries
CLOTHING SUGGESTION
We have daily laundry services in camp and would encourage you to pack light. Depending on the length of your stay with us and of course the entire trip, we recommend at least five sets of clothes. On the field you can either go camo or khaki, it is your prerogative what items you pack but we would suggest you consider packing the following:
- Dark coloured boots/shoes
- Light raincoat
- Light-weight hunting jacket
- One pair of gloves
- A wide-brimmed hat
- Sweater
- Comfortable lodge shoes
NB: Long days in the hunting field can leave feet a bit achy so we advise you wear heavier sock and some sturdy hunting boots/shoes. Stalking and tracking game requires stealthy movement so make sure your boots/shoes have rubber soles.
